Courtney Walter is a recent FIU College of Law graduate, magna cum laude. Ms. Walter was valedictorian of her class, editor-in-chief of the FIU Law Review and member of the Board of Advocates Moot Court Team. Ms. Walter also received six Book Awards while attending FIU.

DLD Lawyers, Padrino Sponsor of CABA Art in the Tropics 2013
DLD Lawyers is again sponsoring the Cuban American Bar Association’s Art in the Tropics. This year’s event will take place this Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 7 PM in The Freedom Tower at Miami-Dade College. As with every Art in the Tropics, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to CABA’s nationally-recognized Pro Bono Project, which was created to assist indigent members of the Miami-Dade community to obtain free legal counsel.

Amalia Gonzalez, Courtney Walter Recognized by FIU College of Law
Amalia Gonzalez and Courtney Walter began working with DLD Lawyers during their last year with FIU College of Law. Upon passing the Bar, each was offered a full time associate position with the firm.
Daniel Cartwright, third year law student with FIU College of Law and summer associate with DLD Lawyers, was also recognized by the college.

Patrick Gonyea to Speak at NAMWOLF 2013 Annual Meeting
Patrick Gonyea will be lecturing at this year’s Annual Meeting commencing on September 22, 2013. Mr. Gonyea and co-presenters, Beth Boggs of Boggs with Avellino, Lach & Boggs, LLC, Marcos Mendoza with Texas Association of School Boards Risk Management Fund and Gene Hou with American Family Insurance Group, will speak on the hot topic of firearm legislation and its effects for employers, employees businesses and the insurance industry. Also attending the Annual Meeting for the firm will be Pete DeMahy, Frank Labrador and Greg Victor.
The National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF) is a non-profit trade association comprised of minority and women-owned law firms rated AV Preeminent with Martindale Hubbell and other interested parties throughout the United States. NAMWOLF aims to promote diversity in the legal profession by fostering successful relationships among preeminent minority and women-owned law firms and private and public entities.

Donell Hicks Earns Board Certification in Construction Law
DLD Lawyers is proud to announce that Donell Hicks has earned the distinguished honor of board certification in construction law by the Florida Bar. Construction lawyers help resolve issues related to the design and construction of improvements on private and public projects.
Board certification recognizes an attorney’s special knowledge, skills and proficiencies in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in practice. This certification is the Bar’s highest level of evaluation of a lawyer’s competence and experience in a particular area of practice. Only attorneys who have earned The Florida Bar Board Certification are allowed to describe themselves as experts or specialists in a specific field of practice. Mr. Hicks is part of a select group composed of only 6% of Florida Bar members to obtain board certification.
Mr. Hicks earned a bachelor of arts degree in government from Cornell University in 1997, and obtained his juris doctor degree from The George Washington University, in 2000. He is a member of The Maryland State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and the Florida Bar. Mr. Hicks’ areas of focus include construction litigation, architectural and engineering malpractice, professional liability, insurance coverage/property & casualty, general & products liability, personal injury, directors & officers, and commercial litigation.
